Underpinning the vision of making the Gatwick Diamond a truly competitive international business location, is a philosophy of sustainable, smart growth. Economic growth does not have to come at the expense of the environment or causing negative affects on the communities within the Diamond, or the beautiful surrounding countryside. It can be done by keeping the very aspects that make this region a great place to live, work and run a business not just intact, but building on these strengths to improve the quality of life for all.
Working closely to support the integration of efforts of the district councils and County Councils within the Diamond, and in line with our commitment to the principles of sustainable development as outlined in the Regional Economic Strategy, there are four priorities for action:
Our efforts to support businesses in increasing their productivity and competitiveness will be done with a clear approach to how best this can support regeneration in urban and rural areas, recognising those that are disadvantaged, and embracing and encouraging leadership in new technologies and innovative approaches. Whether it's about key issues such as waste management and renewable energy sources or 'smart' buildings and new approaches to town planning, every opportunity will be sought to influence a joined up approach in the Diamond and build a distinctive identity for the region.
